    Sherlock Holmes: Jeremy Brett - Dr. Watson: David Burke
 
  In 1984, U.K.'s Granada Television, in association with Public Broadcasting Station WGBH Boston brought to TV a beautifully rendered series that followed the stories nearly verbatim. The programs starred Jeremy Brett as a rather eccentric but compelling Holmes, accompanied by David Burke as Watson. Due to family matters, Mr. Burke reluctantly left the series after the second season.

  The handsome series continued with Brett aptly handling the lead with Edward Hardwicke, son of the fine actor Sir Cedric Hardwicke, slipping comfortably into the role of Dr. Watson. Production followed the Canon until Brett's unfortunate death in 1995, leaving 19 stories unfinished.
