Sherlock Holmes: Eille Norwood - Dr. Watson: Hubert Willis |
| |
| |
Eille Norwood, born Anthony Edward Brett in 1861, took his stage name from his lady friend Eileen and the town of Norwood. He played Holmes in forty-seven silent films lasting about 20 minutes each, with Hubert Willis played Watson in nearly all these films. Arthur Conan Doyle admired Eille's portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, although the contemporary setting in the films were his only criticism.
